Subbing Beliefs
gg believes:
- Hardsubbing is fucking stupid.
- There is more than 1 way to fansub.
- Our commitment to our fellow group members comes before our commitment to our downloaders.
- There is no such thing as “archival quality” or “perfection” to strive for.
Frequently Asked Questions
“Plz gib .avi / low res”
Fuck off.
“Can I use your script?”
There’s no magical protection on them. This isn’t 1st grade, you don’t have to ask. And lol, what’re we going to do if we don’t want you to use it? It’s not like we can actually stop you.
“Where is the script for [show x]?”
Scripts are linked individually on the release post. If you can’t find them in the old /Scripts folder or on a release post, it means we don’t care enough to put it up. Linking and uploading scripts didn’t start until more recently, and we have no desire to download hundreds of releases and extract scripts from them. Fuck that.
“I’m using your script and I’m going to label it a joint”
Unless koda is actually in your staff room bitching at you, it’s not a joint. So don’t label it a joint. We’re not responsible for your stuff.
“What’s the project status?” / “Blah is taking forever!”
Have fun guessing what shit is at, ’cause previous commentors blew your opportunity to have up to the minute status reports. (I’m referring to when I had a Twitter feed on the webpage w/up to date info and people still frequently commented asking where stuff was.)
“Why does X come out before Y?”
Because the translation for X was done before the translation for Y.
“I’m from Brazil and I have terrible English but lets do a joint project”
We (still) don’t do joints with foreign groups. We get questions like, “We want to do [Show A] and we’re from lolbrazil. You translate, it’ll be a joint.” What would the point of a joint with a foreign group be? They have shitty English so getting them to help w/the actual subs is useless. What’re they going to do, time? Oh boy, joint where the joint group provides the most basic entry level fansub job!
“Why did you drop Seto no Hanayome?!”
Because the translator who was doing it at the time quit.
“That’s not a good reason. You obviously have plenty of translators if you keep subbing anime.”
Spoiler: You can’t force a person to do something they don’t want to do.
“Why do you drop so many projects? Finish what you start.”
(´_ã‚ï½€) Seriously? People get tired of stuff. Shows can go from being good to being complete shit. As I said on top, we’re a circlejerk of people who happen to fansub anime.
“Why are you making like 5 different avi encodes?!”
We’re not. Try reading the file name and/or Toyko Tosho comment.
