Attack on Titan – 06

I just realized that this anime uses a lot of stills. Lazy animation? Also, I hate to admit it, but it’s kinda interesting to watch pros lose their jobs at the LCS summer promo. Poor CoL…

P.S. Sorry for the late DDL, but holy shit… NIEN IS A GOD

  1. Gotta save some budget to keep those fast-paced actions scenes looking good.

    @Siztra How’s the ban going?

  2. Why would you say “lazy animation” after seeing the scenes with motion? That’s pretty much the opposite of lazy.

    • Thanks Solar. Noted for batch.

#blameJaka. It looks like the line you’re quoting was split (post-editing) for timing reasons, and instead of getting this:
      >”Do you understand, Eren?”
      >”Eren?!”
The second “Eren?” in the first line wasn’t deleted when the line was split.

  4. >Lazy Animation

No stupid, animation budgets aren’t infinite. The show consistently maintains a distinct visual style so the cost of that is a reduction in the sheer number of frames that can be produced at that quality. Also, they need to save money for the action scenes.

…Unless of course, you were being sarcastic, in which case “hurr hurr yea IKR?”

    Thx 4 release.

    • Or maybe it’s just much more simple than that and Shingeki is currently undergoing issues with the production, as proven by the absolutely retarded number of animators in each episode.

They’re not on schedule, and they’re hiring animators just in order to have the episodes ready on time. Last week some areas of Japan didn’t even get the full episode, they aired an incomplete one due to issues with turning in the material before the deadline.

This particular episode, 6, had 34 Key Animators and 29 2nd Key Animators. If you have no clue what this means, let’s just say it’s more like an animated movie than your regular tv episode.

Anyway, the ‘budget’ isn’t low. The issue is that due to complications in the scheduling, they’re burning through their money not in order to improve quality, but rather get stuff done on time.

      • Nvm in the credits..

Episode 2 had 20 Key Animators and 2 Secondary, while Episode 6 had 34 Key animators and 39 Secondary Key animators..

      • Ops, just noticed I missed the 3 for 39 in my post, ended up typing 29. But yeah, they’ve been having a hard time for a while. 34 KAs is pretty much crazy for a TV show :v

      • If you guys recall, the studio actually posted a want ad, and hired a number of Key animators & 2nd’s after the first couple episodes aired.

  5. Ah. Butt-turds arguing over animation quality. I love being a western anime fan.

In other news, when is gg gonna graduate to DOTA 2?

  7. Aw man… I wish you guys used “put down some rabid dogs” from the manga instead of ” dispose some dangerous beasts”. I really liked that line. :/
    Still, thx for the subs!

  8. > just realized that this anime uses a lot of stills. Lazy animation?

It’s not lazy animation you fucking inbred neckbeard. It’s a carefully done stylistic choice that works really well to provide contrast and empowered the more animated parts.

Its like when you shout in a packed stadium nobody gives a fuck, but when shout in a library shit gets real.

The direction in SnT is so fuckingly good, so well done, its quite posible the best direction ever done in a chinese cartoon, after Eva. Get some taste and start appreciating it.

  9. I can’t see your guys subs for this show. Everything’s up to date on my end video player/codec wise. Other animes display the subs fine as intended.

I had to do some investigating and noticed when I extracted the fonts and double-clicked on each of them, aparajb, Jaka Minc R and META-MEDIUM-ROMAN showed nothing. It was empty. I don’t get how this is occurring and don’t see a v2 patch, is this normal?

  10. So they “killed” the MC and then made the next episode about other characters and flashbacks instead of even acknowledging his death. I hope he revives somehow, otherwise I can’t see a way for this to go on.

On a side note, the flashback Eren is way more awesome than dead Eren (even though he almost died, too). I hope revived Eren is like that.

    • Remember that Gai guy from Guilty Crown? I think the show will go that line (from the perspective of non-manga reader) and Eren’s dream about his father trying to “administered” some drug on him back in Episode 2 might hint a clue.

      • So, in short, titans are humans? If that’s the case then author is ripping off Evangelion. I can easily foresee some sort of «synchronization» thing with a giant body and other related stuff.

  11. Thanks!
    Minor errors list:
03:08 – “Anyways” is slang. It’s up to you if you guys wanna change it to “anyway”.
    09:54 – Comma splice.
The error at 12:19 has already been noted.
23:53 – “I’ve got place to call home.” Missing an “a”.

  12. It’s official the story is progressing so slowly that we’re going backwards in time! Not just lazy animation but kind of a let down to be quite honest. “Defense of Trost” my ass.

    • Well, I don’t think there should be any more flashbacks that could hinder the pace at this point (according to the manga), and now that this one is out of the way the next 2-3 episodes should be amazing.

      • That’s good to know. I didn’t read the manga but I can speculate Eren is coming back as a full metal alchemist or a pirate.

    • I also went back and checked, since slow pace was mentioned, and episode 6 contains 2 chapters of storyline(mind you, the manga is serialized monthly, not weekly and each chapter is an average 40 pages long)

  13. Thanks for the ep.

    Minor error:
17:36 – “If you win, you live” and “If you lose, you die” are subbed the wrong order, if I’m translating correctly.

    • Yeah, I noticed that too when I was watching it. Just a minor error, since they are both correct, just transposed?
