avi and mkv are a fucking container, better say the difference between xvid and h264. Of course, avi does not support h264. :3
mkv also supports softsubs where as avi does not (at least not i any practical way)
AVI is 30% smaller in size, easily viewable without downloading codec packs, can be viewed on computers that are more than 4 years old, can be uploaded to streaming sites, and can easily be burned to video DVD using free software. MKV is just a way for fansub groups and fansub fanboys to act elite and pretentious (while reducing viewership dramatically – want proof? The most recent episode of Umineko has only 700 seeders while DB’s most recent episode of Bleach has over seven *thousand*) and for the makers of CCCP to masturbate all over themselves.
Y would a fan subbing group want their work uploaded into a streaming site in the first place. I heard they hated it, specially since the quality is reduced dramatically. And about bleach, have u evr though that it may be because the anime is way more popular, and DB is the best subbing group who does it? Seeders dont mean much, instead check the amount of downloads, aftr all not all ppl seed. and to quote Choro fansbubbing group “XviD is a terrible codec that will produce worse results at 170 MB than a h.264 at 100 MB at the same resolution. If you look at K-On, the TOTAL size of h.264 WS will equal the size of XviD. Except, h.264 will look better and be 720p, while XviD will be 400p. That shows you how bad XviD compression is.

In reality, AVI or dvix,xvid is actually much bigger in filesize when compare with a h.264 in the same resolution and quality level. And who say divx doesnt need codec? I recall windows since when it can play divx video natively as it still needs a third party codec in order to play h.263 (divx/xvid/lousy mpeg4/etc) encodes except windows 7 which can also play mkv and out perform cccp as well. Do even know why DB still using the lousy shitty avi xvid encode for their release? Is because of u retards, those ppl with 4 year old computers, those refuse to accept new things etc, if u notice DB has released some other series in mkv and their have to write a one whole !@#$ing page for u retards to know how to play this video format properly and it in its full glory becuz if not, u guys will surely troll or flame back at them on believing u download a troll release something.

This is weird DB only USE AVI and there GG that uses MKV….hmm i wonder which one will it be for fairy tail AVI the lost technology of the past, which DB is soo afraid to make better quality coz they probably think their computer or there website will blow up if they switch to a better format codec . let’s just hope GG release there own MKV version on this joint project =).
